How to Play Tango

Fill every cell with a sun ☀️ or a moon 🌙 so that:

  • each row and each column has exactly 3 suns and 3 moons,
  • no more than 2 of the same symbol are next to each other in a row or column,
  • cells joined by = must be the same, and cells joined by × must be different.

Cells that break a rule are shown with red stripes. Every puzzle has exactly one solution and can be solved by logic alone, without guessing.

Daily puzzle and unlimited mode

The Daily Puzzle is the same for everyone and changes at midnight UTC: medium on weekdays, hard at the weekend. Solve it each day to build your streak. In Unlimited mode you can play as many easy, medium or hard puzzles as you like.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as the Tango game on LinkedIn?

It follows the same well-known sun and moon rules, so if you enjoy that game you will feel at home. This is an independent version with its own puzzles and is not affiliated with LinkedIn. You can also play unlimited puzzles here instead of one a day.

What is the difference between easy, medium and hard?

Easy puzzles start with more symbols filled in, so every move follows directly from the basic rules. Medium puzzles give fewer symbols and rely more on the = and × clues. Hard puzzles sometimes need you to think one step ahead: "if this cell were a sun, this row would break, so it must be a moon".

Is this the same as Takuzu or Binairo?

Tango is closely related. Takuzu and Binairo use the same counting and "no three in a row" rules with 0s and 1s; Tango adds the = and × clues between cells.

What does the hint do?

A hint fills in one correct cell (or fixes a wrong one). Hints are counted in your shared result.

Is my daily progress saved?

Yes. Your progress on the daily puzzle and your streak are saved in this browser on this device.

Tango Tips & Strategy

  • Look for pairs first. Two suns side by side means the cells on both ends of the pair must be moons, and vice versa.
  • Fill the gaps. A sun, an empty cell and another sun (☀️ _ ☀️) means the middle cell must be a moon.
  • Count each row and column. As soon as a line has three suns, every remaining cell in it is a moon.
  • Use the = and × clues as chains. If one cell is known, an = or × next to it tells you its neighbour straight away.
  • On hard puzzles, test a cell in your head: "if this were a sun, would any row get four suns or three in a row?" If yes, it must be a moon.

Playing Tango with Your Team

Tango is a calm, two-minute puzzle that works well as a daily team ritual. Everyone plays the same Daily Puzzle and shares their result (time and hints) in your team chat. Hard puzzles at the weekend make a good Monday-morning talking point.
